As estrogen drops, your metabolism slows by 100–300 calories a day. Standard calculators don't account for this. Ours does — with stage-specific adjustments for perimenopause, menopause, and post-menopause.

Estrogen plays a key role in regulating metabolism, fat distribution, and muscle mass. As estrogen declines during menopause, resting metabolic rate drops by 100–300 calories per day on average (Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 2020). Fat storage shifts from hips and thighs to the abdomen. Muscle mass declines faster without deliberate resistance training.
Most calorie calculators use age as a proxy for metabolic slowdown, but the hormonal shift of menopause accelerates this beyond what age alone predicts. A woman at 52 in menopause will have meaningfully different calorie needs than a woman at 52 who still has regular periods.
Higher protein intake (1.2–1.6g per kg of body weight) during and after menopause is critical for preserving muscle mass, supporting bone density, and managing weight. Distributing protein across 3–4 meals maximises muscle protein synthesis, particularly important when estrogen no longer provides its muscle-protective effect.
